about you

Do you suffer from stress now and then? Or do you feel depressed? Do you have problems falling asleep? Are you anxious? Is it hard for you to concentrate?

Unfortunately many PhD students struggle with some of these symptoms to a greater or lesser extent. And the problem is that you don’t really know how to fix them.

Sara Lazar – a neuroscientist – explains in a TEDxCambridge talk that our neuroplasticity can help us. She was very skeptical about it at first but after practicing meditation she found out she benefited a lot from it.

If you want some help with meditating than you could use an app to experiment. Andy Puddicombe recommends an app on his website, Eva Lantsoght (PhD talk) uses the Stop, breathe & think-app, and I love Buddhify 2 (only Iphone and Ipad). It doesn’t hurt to try.

I would love to hear your experiences.
