The Dutch PhD Coach has ended as a platform for programmes and open enrolment. Not because the work is finished, but because it was never just about PhD trajectories.
What I’ve been doing for years with PhD candidates is not about better content, smarter techniques, or more discipline. It’s about designing a process that actually works.
Without a working process:
you keep shifting things forward
you work hard without real progress
finishing always feels just out of reach
With a working process:
finishing becomes realistic again
This applies to a PhD — and just as much to other projects that matter too much to stay unfinished.
If you are a PhD candidate who wants to finish, you are still welcome.

Meters Maken is my personal 1-on-1 trajectory for PhD candidates who:
feel stuck in writing, planning or decision-making
know motivation isn’t the real issue
are done with “just pushing through”
This is not a motivation programme.
We redesign your process so that progress becomes inevitable.

Later this year I will launch Louter & verder.
Louter & verder is for people with a concrete project that needs to be finished: a PhD, a book, a research project, or another substantial endeavour. For those who have realised that more willpower is not the solution.
The work is structured around four pillars:
Compass — making clear choices
Spark — restoring energy and creative momentum
Workshop — working in a rhythm you can actually sustain
Studio — working alongside others, without noise or pressure
Louter & verder will start with founding members and has open enrolment.
The group can grow — the structure keeps it personal.
Please note: Louter & verder will be offered in Dutch and in the Netherlands.
If you want to know when Louter & verder opens, you can leave your email address here.
you want to finish something that truly matters
you are willing to look honestly at your process
you no longer want to rely on sheer willpower
If you’re mainly looking for reassurance, this probably isn’t for you.
My book Travel Guide to Your PhD remains available for those who prefer to start by reading before stepping in.
“Say, you have taken that ethics course at the graduate school, right? Otherwise you can’t get your PhD,” says your colleague. Your neighbor approaches it differently: “I really admire you for being so smart, all that reading, all that studying. I could never do that. Your parents must be so…
“Can you help me make this paragraph flow a bit better?” Long live ChatGPT. Within seconds, a new version appeared on my screen. More readable. To the point. And to be honest: it was a relief. Maybe you’ve had similar moments. You’re trying to find the right words, you’ve lost…
On March 21st, Promovendi Netwerk Nederland presented their report Four Years of Contract, Five+ Years of Work: Factors Hindering and Supporting a Timely PhD Completion at a symposium. It was a sharp and well-substantiated presentation, followed by a lively panel discussion moderated by Joeri Tijdink. The panel members were Marie-José…
Lodewijk and I were recently interviewed by Lexter Woodley for her podcast. As she describes it: Whether you’re on the fence about pursuing a PhD or knee-deep in your research, this conversation is packed with practical tips and hard-earned wisdom. From tackling procrastination and navigating tricky supervisor relationships to staying…
