Do you struggle to reach your goals? I will give you a step-by-step action plan to achieve them or to make sure you can skip them from your to-do list. Sometimes it is better deleting them than keeping them on your list. The latter demands a lot of energy and creates the risk you start thinking something is wrong with you because it seems you will never reach your goals.
A step-by-step action plan. Thanks Michael Neill for the inspiration.
Step 1
What do you want to achieve? Write down at least one big and one smaller goal.
Step 2
Ask yourself with every goal: ‘What is it that blocks me to achieve that goal?’
Chances are your answer will consist of one of the following: lack of information, skills, self confidence, how you feel, other people, motivation, time, money or fear.
Step 3
Now you have found out what it is that blocks you – the answer of the question in step 2 – aks yourself if it is an obstacle or do you use it as an excuse? Otherwise said: are you actually looking for a way to remove the obstacle or are you promising yourself that you probably will deal with it another time?
Step 4
If it is an obstacle, start brainstorming how to resolve it. Talk with friends, find support or a coach, do whatever is needed to eliminate the obstacle. I know you can do it!
Step 5
Did you discover that your answer in step 2 is actually an excuse? Well, you have got 2 choices:
- make it an obstacle and proceed to Step 4
- do yourself a favour and skip the goal. If you don’t want to do it, it doesn’t really matter anymore what kind of excuse you use not to do it.
Can you feel the relief?
And in case you want to go one step further, what about a spring clean.
